Ask Away Friday with Lisi P at Lisi’s Place

I’m at it again!  Every few weeks I dive into the pool of self-disclosure and pure entertainment that is Ask Away Friday.  This link-up party was started less than a year ago by Penny Chevalley at The Real Housewife of Caroline County, and it has really taken off.

Ask Away Friday is a question-and-answer swap in which two bloggers give each other 10 questions to answer in a post on a Friday, with the intention of getting to know each other better and giving their readers a deeper look at their personalities and quirks.

Along with Penny, the co-hosts of Ask Away Friday are Tiffany at Mrs. Tee: Love, Life and Laughter (with whom I did my first Ask Away Friday post), Amber at The Bold Fab Mom, and Stacey at This Momma’s Ramblings.

So for this, my fourth go-around of Ask Away Friday, I’m teamed up with Lisi P from Lisi’s Place.  I met Lisi through Deidra Riggs’ Sunday Community, which I link to each weekend with my Sunday post.

Lisi is a devoted Christian and a veteran blogger since 2008.  This writer and poet has as her blogging goal encouraging and inspiring her readers, and she definitely delivers!   I’m so glad to have made Lisi’s acquaintance, and I know you will, too, when you go over to her blog to check out her answers to my questions.

Here we go!

1.Your blog is entitled “Embrace The Struggle.”  What do you find most surprising about embracing the struggles you’ve experienced?

What has surprised me the most is how embracing my struggles has changed me for the better.  I’ve grown to accept and make peace with situations that would have driven me crazy before.  I’ve become more resilient, tolerant, flexible, and empathetic.

2.  If you could meet one person you haven’t met yet, who would this be and why?

I think I’d like to meet Oprah Winfrey.  I think her life story is very uplifting, and chatting with her would bring about many “Aha!” moments for me.

3.  What is the one item you feel that you couldn’t live without?

Water.  We’re very delusional about how vital water is to our well being.  We could go for days without food, but without water?  Not so much!

4.  On your Bucket List of items to accomplish, what is the one thing that remains there?

I still want to go to Alaska on a cruise.  I am going to get there!

5.  Do you prefer spicy foods or non-spicy?

Non-spicy, please.  The hot stuff does a number on my gastrointestinal system.

6.  What is/are your favorite TV Show(s)?

Right now, the only show I look at is The Haves and The Have Nots.  I used to love The Mentalist, the original CSI (until it got too gory), Joan of Arcadia, Reunion, and Law and Order SVU.

7.  Are you a sports fan? If so, which sport(s)?

No, dear, not a sports fan.

8.  What is the last book you read? Would you recommend it to others?

Being Jesus in Nashville by Jim Palmer.  Yes I would definitely recommend it.  Jim takes us on a journey in which he turns upside down the Christian phrase “What Would Jesus Do (WWJD)?”  It made me rethink how living as a Christian ought to be.

9.  Where do you see yourself a year from now?

A year from now I hope to have started taking classes toward certification as a health coach.

10.  What is a quote that has impacted you and your journey?

“God is faithful always, and in all ways.”  It’s the tagline in my e-mail signature, and I came up with it a few years ago.  As I looked at how God has been there, regardless of what was going on in my life, I came to the conclusion that He was always faithful, but also faithful in all ways.  Who could ask for anything more?

Okay guys, go check out Lisi’s responses to my questions. I’m still enjoying my SITS Day, which was officially yesterday!  Check it out too!

  1. Hi Ali! This looks like a lot of fun! Thank you for giving us a little glimpse into your life and thoughts.
I am sure that Oprah Winfrey would be an amazing person to meet. She has really broken through all kinds of barriers and succeeded where many have failed in daytime TV. Thank you for the book recommendation, it’s always good to hear what people are reading, and what inspires them!

Heading over to meet your friend! Happy Weekend my friend,

    • Ceil, have a great weekend too! I know you will enjoy Lisi’s blog as well. And the book is very good. His other two books that I’ve read are Divine Nobodies and Wide Open Spaces.

  2. I would answer #2 with Oprah Winfrey, too! I feel like SO many “Aha” moments would result from a chat with her!
I love me some TV shows, but I’ve never seen The Haves and The Have Nots! I’m going to remedy that as soon as I can!! –Lisa
The Dose of Reality recently posted..Pinterest Nightmare #001:The Nightmares That Still Haunt UsMy Profile

    • Lisa, it’s my one guilty pleasure, and there are only two episodes until it goes on hiatus. Won’t say that I’m addicted to it, but I sure do look forward to Tuesday nights!

  3. We’ve got a few things in common – a big one is the cruise to Alaska. My husband said it was out of the question for him. But I would LOVE to the view. I did actually look it up one time to see if I could talk him into it, but they are no less than 7 days and we were looking for a shorter one. I’m not a big sports fan. I used to watch the Mentalist but I got bored with it after that wasn’t the real Red John. And CSI too until it got terribly gross – all of those Criminal Minds etc.
    Kenya G. Johnson recently posted..If you’re happy & you know it – do a dance!My Profile

    • Yes, the gross stuff became a turnoff, Kenya. I just couldn’t keep looking at it. But you do know that the real Red John was revealed this last season of The Mentalist. And Patrick Jane was the one who killed him!

Keep working on the hubs re: Alaska! They say it’s beautiful.

  4. Thanks, Ali! I greatly appreciate your patience in helping me with Ask Away Friday. It was a nice experience and helped me to think outside-of-my-box!

I would love to meet Oprah one day too. She’s on my list of people to meet as well as Tyler Perry 🙂 Thank you for the information on the book. I’m going to add it to my list. I love your quote!!

~Lisi P. recently posted..Ask Away Friday with Miss Alison at Embrace The Struggle!!My Profile

    • Lisi, it was a pleasure to swap questions with you. I see we had one question in common! LOL And you’re right, Tyler Perry would be another great person to sit and visit with.

  5. Does the orginal CSI still come on? I use to love that show but they kept changing the characters so I gave up on it. I can do some spicy foods but for the most part it’s a no.

    • I honestly don’t know whether it’s still on, but you’re right about the cast changing up a lot. I sort of lost track of it. I don’t even know whether the Miami and New York spinoffs are still on the air.

  6. I’m not a sports fan either. I’ll be looking forward to hearing about your health coach classes when you’re ready to start them. Couldn’t agree more about the water!
Carla recently posted..Fitness Friday 4: Should I Go Gluten Free?My Profile

    • I’m stoked about it too, Carla! My goal is to take the Certification Program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). My friends tease me and call me the “health evangelist”, so I do believe it’s my calling to become a health coach!

  7. Yes, to Alaskan cruise! My parents did it for my mom’s 50th and it was incredible for them.
And I can’t do non-spicy food, but mainly it messes with my sinuses and not my stomach.
You’d make an incredible health coach.
Tamara recently posted..In Which Des Takes Over My Ask Away Friday. My Profile

    • Aw Tamara, thanks for the vote of confidence! I love all things health-related, so I see it as a natural next step career-wise.

I’m really going to have to make serious plans re: the Alaska cruise. Everyone I know who has done it has never regretted it.

  8. As always I love coming by and getting uplifted by you even through you answers. I love that last catch phrase…it puts me in mind of Romans 8:28…my fav! Thanks fo bringing me another bit of enlightenment 😉

    • Thanks, Tiffany! You know, that quote does remind me of Romans 8:28. How coincidental. Thanks, as always, for being an affirming, encouraging blogging buddy, Tiffany.

  9. Health coach certification sounds exciting. I am a SVU junkie!!!! Love that show. I am like the Haves and Have Nots too. Tiki Sumter just makes the entire show for me. I drink so much water it’s a shame! I keep a bottle by the bed in the middle of the night, um yeah…can’t live without it.
Joi @ Rx Fitness Lady recently posted..I Love BODYPUMP, but It’s Just Not EnoughMy Profile

    • Same here re: bottle by the bed. Two in the car. A huge jug to work each day. #waterbaby And isn’t Ms. Tika everything? I just love her to pieces. She plays the heck out of Candace. Loved her when she was on One Life to Live too!

  10. So great getting to know you better! I sadly watch more tv than I used to, though it is mainly HGTV or DIY channels, but there are a few others that I don’t mind. 🙂 Spicy foods don’t like me so much, as I get older. Good luck on the Health Coach Certification…you will do a great job! Hope you have a great weekend!
Stacey Gannett recently posted..#AskAwayFriday 29 with Dee from Simply D Constructed! My Profile

    • Thanks Stacey! I used to be a HGTV addict a few years ago, but they got into more real estate shows than design shows, so my interest petered out. Like you, I can’t do too much spicy food. Aging has its pluses and its minuses in that regard!

  11. I love Tika Sumpter too, all the way back to One Life To Live.

  12. I wanted to go to Alaska on a cruises, but my husband didn’t want to. I’m just going to have to make enough “extra” money that it won’t matter! LOL! He can stay home if he wants to. Likely, he’ll want to go if I make plans to go though. God is always faithful and has always been there for me, even when I didn’t think he was.

  14. How awesome is the Have and the Have Nots? It is the best soap everrr! My husband and I watch every weekend on the DVR and we giggle our way right through. There are some strong themes in that show! I would love to see you become a health coach 😉

    • Nellie, I love HAHN! Tuesday’s are my guilty pleasure night. It’s so full of twists and turns that it leaves me full of questions after each episode ends.

I’m definitely working on the health coach plan. It inspires me to push through my current job, knowing that that is what I want to do “when I grow up”!

  15. A health coach? That sounds like something you would be great at, Alison. You seem so patient and inspiring. And I hope you get on that Alaskan cruise one day; everyone I know who has been on one says it’s amazing.
Dana recently posted..NJ asks away!My Profile

    • Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, Dana! I do believe health coaching is a perfect blend of my passion for seeing people live in good health and what I believe is my purpose to encourage them to that end. I’m going to start an Alaska cruise fund, because it’s not a cheap trip. But I do mean to do it within the next three years.

  16. Oprah would so AWESOME to meet. She is amazing. I’ve always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise too! I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it. I have to agree with you about water, I drink A TON of it during the day.

    • Water definitely keeps us afloat, Sarah. So often when we think we’re hungry, we really need a good swig of water to quench our thirst and remove dehydration. Here’s a toast to us keeping our water levels high!

  17. Alison, I had no idea you wanted to be a health coach! That is phenomenal. A cruise to Alaska? I would imagine that would be so beautiful. It would have to be in the 4 months that they don’t have winter there. The cold there is like a different breed of cold than what I think I’ve ever seen lol.
Brittnei recently posted..Celebrating Shabbat as a Believer in YeshuaMy Profile

    • Have you visited Alaska, Brittnei? I have friends who have, and they said it was simply awesome. You’re right that it would have to be in the warmer months. I’m so looking forward to beginning my studies for health coach certification!

  18. What a nice peak at Lisa P. I have to agree with her about meeting Oprah. She has come so far and give back so much. She seems like a genuine caring soul.

  19. Alaska is beautiful! I lived on Kodiak Island, a.k.a. “The Emerald Isle” for two years, and the nickname stands up to every meaning of the word emerald. So beautiful.

Sometimes, I find letting go to be the hard part. But once I do that, this huge weight is lifted and I can breathe deeply and freely.

It was nice to get to know a little more about you!
