I promised myself a relatively quiet blogging week after participating in two blog challenges in September, but when Tiffany of MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter asked me to participate in “Ask Away Friday,” I took her up on it.
Tiffany and I recently became blogging friends; she kindly bestowed the Liebster Award upon me just one month ago. Yay Tiffany!
Ask Away Friday is a question-and-answer swap between two bloggers. Tiffany and I gave each other 10 questions to answer in a post on Friday, with the intention of getting to know each other better and letting our readers know what makes us tick.
I love the fact that Tiffany is a sold-out Christian, effervescent with energy and joy that spill over into her posts. Hey, anyone with a tagline that reads: “Where Love, Life, and Laughter collide to make a collage of unexpected happiness” is right up my alley!
Did I add that she’s a blogging ninja? This wife and mom churns out blog posts like nobody’s business and is all over the social media landscape. I wanna be like her when I grow up!
Guys, here are Tiffany’s ten questions, along with my answers. When you’re done reading them, hop over to her blog to see how she answered my questions!
Your tagline for your site is: Pray. Wage War. Pray Again! I love it! How did you come up with this?
I’m a person who prays for others. We’re amazingly blessed to communicate with God through prayer and to be empowered by Him to take on the daily battle of life. Prayer is versatile in that it fits into any struggle we face and every sphere of experience. We never stop praying, and we never stop fighting. We embrace our struggles through prayer. Hence the tagline!
When you begin to feel overwhelmed by life or circumstances, what is your process for recharging?
I try to get away, physically. That may mean walking around my office building or in my neighborhood. Next best is a weekend trip where there’s a spa, or (bliss!) a real vacation like my trip to Costa Rica. Pura vida!
But honestly, the first place I go to recharge is my prayer room. Time alone with God in prayer and praise regulates my mind. And sometimes, just a “mental health” day at home to chillax, read, listen to music, and putter around the house usually gets me back on track.
Do you enjoy being alone with your thoughts or surrounded by friends/family?
I’m gonna get a lot of side eyes for this one but yes, I enjoy being alone with my thoughts. I need to think. Always. My mom has always said that I think too much, but I don’t know how not to. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy my friends and family, but I am far more replenished by quiet introspection than loud extroversion.
Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?
I go home to Saint Kitts to spend Christmas with my mom, and Christmas is Carnival time in Saint Kitts. Of course, there’s the dressing of the Christmas tree, wrapping of gifts, and enjoying a typical Christmas Day dinner, featuring turkey, ham, and other delicacies.
Boxing Day, December 26, is J’Ouvert (French for “I open”), so from the wee hours of the morning people are on the road singing and dancing and partying. Our extended family and friends come over for breakfast, and then my birthday is the next day and we all celebrate once again!
Do you prefer sweet or savory?
Hey, I’m an island girl. Savory it is! Flavorful, delicious dishes get my taste buds to a happy place.
What is your favorite season, and why?
I love spring! I wish it could be spring all year long. Spring brings a sense of hope, new possibilities, second chances. And the tender shades of green in the trees and grass, coupled with the flowers… divine!
If given a choice, would you go for a run or take a trip to the mall?
I’m not a runner, but I’d have to side with going for a run. I’d have to do 90 percent walking and 10 percent running, however. 😉 Thing is, I really dislike malls, and it’s gotten worse since 9/11. I just feel like it’s a terrorist’s dream come true. So many people in one place and precious little security. Plus, I don’t like to be all up under so many people in one place. And I hate shopping! Unless it’s online shopping. That I can do full time!
If you had the ability to go anywhere with no cares about cost, where would you go, and why?
I’d probably do a world tour. There are specific places I want to visit on every continent, and for different reasons. I’d go to South Africa for sure. Brazil. Italy and France. Bali and New Zealand and Australia. Alaska. Dominica. They all have unique facets that I’d love to explore.
Where is your favorite spot to blog?
I’m a creature of habit, so I’m always on my purple velvet chaise in my bedroom when I’m blogging. It’s comfy, my cat is here curled up next to me, and it works!
What goals do you have set for yourself within the next 6 months?
I’m doing Donald Miller’s Storyline workbook and hope to complete it before the end of the year. It makes you look at the positive and negative turns in your life and determine how to turn the negatives to your advantage for the rest of your life. The goal is for me to live a better story with the years I have left.
I’m completing Suze Orman’s Protection Portfolio Program, a detailed guide to putting important personal documentation in order. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it, especially if something were to happen to me. One never knows!
I’m also aiming to flesh out my emergency fund. The current furlough has really made me rethink how close we all are to being without regular income. Very scary!
