Ask Away Friday with Mrs. Tee: Love, Life, and Laughter

I promised myself a relatively quiet blogging week after participating in two blog challenges in September, but when Tiffany of MrsTeeLoveLifeLaughter asked me to participate in “Ask Away Friday,” I took her up on it.

PicMonkey Collage askawayfriday

Tiffany and I recently became blogging friends;  she kindly bestowed the Liebster Award upon me just one month ago.  Yay Tiffany!

Ask Away Friday is a question-and-answer swap between two bloggers.  Tiffany and I gave each other 10 questions to answer in a post on Friday, with the intention of getting to know each other better and letting our readers know what makes us tick.

I love the fact that Tiffany is a sold-out Christian, effervescent with energy and joy that spill over into her posts.  Hey, anyone with a tagline that reads: “Where Love, Life, and Laughter collide to make a collage of unexpected happiness” is right up my alley!

Did I add that she’s a blogging ninja?  This wife and mom churns out blog posts like nobody’s business and is all over the social media landscape.  I wanna be like her when I grow up!

Guys, here are Tiffany’s ten questions, along with my answers. When you’re done reading them, hop over to her blog to see how she answered my questions!

Your tagline for your site is: Pray. Wage War. Pray Again!  I love it! How did you come up with this?

I’m a person who prays for others.   We’re amazingly blessed to communicate with God through prayer and to be empowered by Him to take on the daily battle of life.  Prayer is versatile in that it fits into any struggle we face and every sphere of experience.  We never stop praying, and we never stop fighting.  We embrace our struggles through prayer.  Hence the tagline!

When you begin to feel overwhelmed by life or circumstances, what is your process for recharging?

I try to get away, physically.  That may mean walking around my office building or in my neighborhood.  Next best is a weekend trip where there’s a spa, or (bliss!) a real vacation like my trip to Costa Rica.  Pura vida!

But honestly, the first place I go to recharge is my prayer room.  Time alone with God in prayer and praise regulates my mind.  And sometimes, just a “mental health” day at home to chillax, read, listen to music, and putter around the house usually gets me back on track.

Do you enjoy being alone with your thoughts or surrounded by friends/family?

I’m gonna get a lot of side eyes for this one but yes, I enjoy being alone with my thoughts.  I need to think.  Always.  My mom has always said that I think too much, but I don’t know how not to.  And it’s not that I don’t enjoy my friends and family, but I am far more replenished by quiet introspection than loud extroversion.

Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?

I go home to Saint Kitts to spend Christmas with my mom, and Christmas is Carnival time in Saint Kitts.  Of course, there’s the dressing of the Christmas tree, wrapping of gifts, and enjoying a typical Christmas Day dinner, featuring turkey, ham, and other delicacies.

Boxing Day, December 26, is J’Ouvert (French for “I open”), so from the wee hours of the morning people are on the road singing and dancing and partying.  Our extended family and friends come over for breakfast, and then my birthday is the next day and we all celebrate once again!

Do you prefer sweet or savory?

Hey, I’m an island girl.  Savory it is!  Flavorful, delicious dishes get my taste buds to a happy place.

What is your favorite season, and why?

I love spring!  I wish it could be spring all year long.  Spring brings a sense of hope, new possibilities, second chances.   And the tender shades of green in the trees and grass, coupled with the flowers… divine!

If given a choice, would you go for a run or take a trip to the mall?

I’m not a runner, but I’d have to side with going for a run.  I’d have to do 90 percent walking and 10 percent running, however.   😉  Thing is, I really dislike malls, and it’s gotten worse since 9/11.  I just feel like it’s a terrorist’s dream come true.  So many people in one place and precious little security.  Plus, I don’t like to be all up under so many people in one place.  And I hate shopping!  Unless it’s online shopping.  That I can do full time!

If you had the ability to go anywhere with no cares about cost, where would you go, and why?

I’d probably do a world tour.  There are specific places I want to visit on every continent, and for different reasons.  I’d go to South Africa for sure.  Brazil.  Italy and France.  Bali and New Zealand and Australia.  Alaska.  Dominica.  They all have unique facets that I’d love to explore.

Where is your favorite spot to blog?

I’m a creature of habit, so I’m always on my purple velvet chaise in my bedroom when I’m blogging.  It’s comfy, my cat is here curled up next to me, and it works!

What goals do you have set for yourself within the next 6 months?

I’m doing Donald Miller’s Storyline workbook and hope to complete it before the end of the year.  It makes you look at the positive and negative turns in your life and determine how to turn the negatives to your advantage for the rest of your life.  The goal is for me to live a better story with the years I have left.

I’m completing Suze Orman’s Protection Portfolio Program, a detailed guide to putting important personal documentation in order.  It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it, especially if something were to happen to me.  One never knows!

I’m also aiming to flesh out my emergency fund.  The current furlough has really made me rethink how close we all are to being without regular income.  Very scary!

  1. Alison! Thank you so much for such a beautiful introduction…I am flattered and grateful!

I loved your tagline before but now I think I may love it even more if that’s possible 😀

I’m also more of an ‘alone with my thoughts’ kinda person unless it comes to my Kiddies and Hubby…then I love having them surround me. I could never choose between sweet and savory…I love them both so much! LOL

Thanks so much for exchanging questions with and I hope you can join us again for another #AskAwayFriday and perhaps get to know some of the Bloggers… 🙂

  2. I so love what you said about how we never stop praying and we never stop fighting. It is so true. Prayer gives me strength, and I’m actually not very religious! We have a mixed family – half Jewish and half not. We’re learning, though.
I love reading Tiffany’s posts, and I love her questions.
So many of us love Alaska – wish we could create a blogging conference there! With scholarships.
    Nice to know you more!

    • I think a blogging conference in Alaska is the coolest idea, Tamara! We should work on it! A friend of mine whose birthday is today mentioned going to Alaska as part of her bucket list. I told her to count me in!

I’m all about prayer, and I hate to consider myself religious in the strict sense of the word. Prayer is like breathing, what we do to keep ourselves in God’s loop constantly. Love it!

  3. What a cool way of getting to know more about another blogger. You will get no side eyes from me Alison. I love family/friends but the most comfortable place is alone with my thoughts. I always say I’m more of a thinker than a talker. Enjoy learning more about you. I’m off to read Ms Tee’s answers. Hope you have a great weekend.

  6. Hey Alison! Yes, Tiffany is a sweet heart! I met her just a few weeks ago in the blogging world. Can you please, please, please take me with you when you go on your world tour? PLEEEAASE!! 😀 Many people think I’m a social butterfly(and I am to an extinct) , but like you, I would rather be alone by myself, listening to some good music! Thanks for giving us a peep into your lovely life! Have a wonderful weekend my friend!!

  9. I love your tagline! It sounds so positive. Like you, I value my time alone to think though with 2 wild kids that can be hard to accomplish but I cherish every moment with them. Thank you for sharing and nice to meet you here in AskAwayFriday. 🙂

  11. I love this! It’s so much fun and I learned so much. I had NO IDEA you were from Saint Kitts! How did I not know that?! Awesome.
I’m with you. I despise malls. I will do almost anything to avoid them…even walk/jog. That’s saying A LOT! –Lisa

  12. Ali, this is so great!! I did not know you were from St. Kitts, first off. I am into the savory too…I like my sweets…but I love a great meal far more! I am a runner, but I also hate malls. I really don’t like to shop, except in our downtown, which I can walk to. Being in crowds of people overwhelms me, so it really has to be something cool for me to want to be around that many people. Shopping would not be one of those things. Loved reading this and getting to know you better!

    • Thanks, Michelle! Can’t wait to read your Ask Away Friday. I’m falling asleep here after a very long day at work, so tomorrow is “blog catchup day” for me. So cool to see areas of convergence, such as mall avoidance, crowd avoidance, and savory stuff! Have a wonderful weekend, Michelle. Hope the weather will be as nice for you as they say it’ll be for us in Maryland.

  13. So glad you are doing this! I learn more about you with every post. Boxing day – even though I spend it right here – is still my favorite part of the holiday season.

    • Eva, we live in downtown Basseterre so we end up being a drop-by stop for revellers exhausted from jamming or those who just want to relax and chat while the bacchanal rages further down town. Sometimes I miss being up here (once it’s not snowing!) on Boxing Day and taking advantage of the sales. But there truly is no place like home at Christmas. You see so many people you haven’t seen in years!

I’m so ready for the world tour! Seems quite a few of you are on the same page. Let’s be intentional about getting it in!

  16. I think one of the first posts I ever read of yours was when you went to Costa Rica. I am so with you on the run mall one. I don’t run, I walk fast. And I don’t like to shop. So I am not a drifter of the mall – no fear – I just don’t like it.

And speaking of savory, I made a recipe that I pinned from you recently. It was the Chicken, Spinach and Cannellini Bean Quesadillas. DELICIOUS. We had the leftovers after church today.

  28. This is my second time seeing the Q&A and I love this idea! It’s great to learn a little about you. I have to admit, I’m not a mall gal either, so I think with that question, I would’ve probably answered ‘run’ as well, and I don’t care for running. But if you were to substitute “Michaels, JoAnne Fabric, AC Moore or Hobby Lobby” in place of the mall, I’d change my answer…LOL!

And thanks for the tip about the Suze Orman’s Protection Portfolio. My husband and I are getting all of our docs in order too…it’s important especially to protect our daughter…thanks for the information!
