International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

AsiaBibi

Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). Asia Bibi has been a poster child for persecution against Christians since 2009 when she was beaten, arrested, and sentenced to death by hanging for the trumped-up charge of blasphemy against the prophet Muhammad.

Hundreds of thousands of Christians continue to suffer various levels of persecution today. Let’s remember our brothers and sisters in prayer today, and always, as they endure many horrors–even death–for their faith.

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of the destitute.” Proverbs 31:8

Have a blessed Sunday!  Please join me and other Christian bloggers over at The Sunday Community, hosted by Deidra Riggs.

  3. This is so real–I pray for everyone who are doing missionary work overseas, and those that are doing it in their own country. They need our prayers for sure!

  4. They need daily prayer coverage, Kalley. It takes a superhuman effort to stay faithful and courageous as a missionary, particularly in hostile nations.

  5. It’s so sad to hear stories like this. We are so blessed to live in a country where we can worship without worry of persecution. Yes, lets keep her and other’s like her in our prayers.

  6. I’m confused. Is she now a Christian and is being persecuted for denouncing Islam? I’m confused because it says she was the poster child for persecution against Christians.

  7. Hi Alison! Thank you for reminding me that not only should we pray for the persecuted, but that there still are so many in the world who are suffering for their beliefs! As we live in the freedom of expression, it’s easy to think that this doesn’t happen anymore. In a way, it’s hard to fathom the cruelty. What are these people doing that is so threatening?

I join you in prayer for those who stand firm under so much oppression. God give them the strength they need to persevere. They are the saints among us.

    • Ceil, they really are the true saints! It’s amazing the level of cruelty they have to endure, yet they do so with no guarantee that it will let up. Our prayers sustain their faith in such trying times.

  8. Sometimes living with religious freedom can make you forget about those who are fighting for what we have. Great post and thank you for sharing!
