I love to see good people be rewarded by God for their hard work and faithfulness! Big-ups to Funlayo and Shola of Shea Radiance for the launch of their hair products line at Target! Couldn’t have happened to a better couple.
Song/Album: “Be Still” by Yolanda Adams on the album Becoming.
Why it made the cut: With Psalm 46:10 echoing throughout, “Be Still” is a love song from the Lord, a gentle reminder of how much we take God’s gift of His presence and character for granted and press ahead in our own strength, not inquiring from Him first.
The flowing orchestration and subtle piano underpin the song, but Yolanda’s understated rendition is what makes “Be Still” tug at the heart and open our spirits to receive God’s direct message to us.
I needed that word! Thanks, Yolanda!
Artist: Considered gospel’s heir apparent to Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin, music veteran Yolanda Adams is known for fusing jazz, R & B, hip-hop, pop, and traditional gospel to create her distinctive sound.
This former elementary school teacher and part-time model came to mainstream fame with the release of her seminal album Mountain High …Valley Low in 1999. Ten years later, Billboard Magazine would name her the #1 gospel artist of the last decade, known best for her signature song, “The Battle Is The Lord’s.”
Yolanda has collaborated not only with such gospel music luminaries as Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, and Kirk Franklin, but with pop and R & B producers like Keith Thomas and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
Yolanda is the recipient of numerous Grammy, Stellar, Dove, American Music, and NAACP Image awards, and, most recently, the 2012 BET Award for Best Gospel Artist.
Not one to rest on her laurels, Yolanda has branched out into the roles of radio host of The Yolanda Adams Morning Show; author of the book “Points of Power”; producer of her own record label, N-House Music Group; and owner of Yolanda’s Clozet clothing line.
