Few things are more rewarding than seeing young people you’ve known since they were babies now growing up to be beautiful young women committed to Jesus. Had that opportunity this weekend. God gets all the glory! May we all make, and keep, our commitment to be faithful to Him.
Song/Album: “Faithful to Me” by Kathy Troccoli on the album Love and Mercy.
Why it made the cut: “Faithful to Me” is a song of dedication to the Lord, a reminder that our goal here on earth is to be obedient to God and to bring Him pleasure by our choices.
In typical Troccoli style, Kathy brings pathos, passion, and a stirring delivery to a God-centered ballad that is bolstered by beautiful strings and piano.
Kathy wrote this song, which brings scripture (Micah 6:8 and Matt 25:21 in particular) to the fore. To me, however, Philippians 3:12-14 are the verses that come to mind. We are on a journey of ever-increasing closeness to Jesus. His approval is what counts most!
Artist: Kathy Troccoli is celebrating 30 years in Christian music! This soulful New Yorker brought a new sound to Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) that would open doors for other vibrant, nontraditional singers.
Kathy is one of my favorite alto singers and an alum of Berklee College of Music. Her major in jazz and opera is evident in her ballads and dramatic song interpretations.
I recall seeing her video for “Everything Changes,” a mainstream hit for Kathy in 1991, and appreciating her voice and energy. “Everything Changes” was Kathy’s top radio hit and peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Kathy has branched out from singing and songwriting to writing, public speaking, overseas mission work, and hosting her “KT and Friends” cruises. Selected as one of the most influential Christian women by readers of Today’s Christian Woman magazine, this year Kathy inaugurates “Among Friends,” a new women’s event which she sees as part of her ministry of encouragement to women.
“I am exactly where I am supposed to be,” says Kathy. “There is such freedom in that. Now I truly understand that my singing is just a part of what God created me to do.”
I want to live my life in glory to You, Lord
That each and every day I’d love You more
I pray I’ll die for You, the one that I adore
That some day I may hear the words I hold so dear:
“Well done, my child, you have believed; you’ve been faithful to me!”
