Congrats to the winning team in the Super Bowl. Which team won again? :-p I am yet to get worked up over this event. Have never really looked at a Super Bowl. I hear the ads are amazing. Ah well, maybe next year I’ll watch… not!
Song/Album: “Say The Name” by Margaret Becker on the album “Soul.”
Why it made the cut: Total focus on Jesus! This is my go-to Jesus song.
Sometimes circumstances leave you just wanting to hear His name and to be comforted by the reality of who He is. “Say The Name” does that in spades. I listen to Maggie Becker’s throaty vocals and rocker chick swagger, neatly restrained to throw emphasis on the One who alone takes first place, and I am calm and at peace.
Artist: I think Margaret Becker is one of the most underrated Christian artists. Ever. The multi-hyphenate (singer-songwriter-producer-electric guitarist) evokes little bits of Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Teena Marie, and Heart, but she plays for an audience of One: Jesus.
It’s not too hard to believe that Becker was singing in jazz clubs by age 16 while dreaming of becoming a cabaret performer in New York. She first came to prominence as a songwriter and segued into a respected career as a Contemporary Christian artist, beginning in the 1980s. Since then, she’s racked up 21 #1 Christian radio hits, has won four Dove Awards, and has been nominated four times for a Grammy.
The author of two books, and contributing writer to Christian magazines is also well known for her devotion to social causes.
May I never grow so strong
That my heart cannot be moved
May I never grow so weak
That I fear to speak the truth
