Monday Melody – Where There Is Faith

It finally happened!  I got my snow fix!  Woke up Saturday morning to a landscape covered in the white stuff.  Not a lot, barely an inch, but what a sight!  Thanks be to God for the beauty of every season.

On the turntable this week, an oldie from (gasp!) 1990.

Song/Album: “Where There is Faith” on the album “4HIM” by 4HIM.

Why it made the cut:  Just as the title indicates, this song focuses on faith in a God who gives us the spiritual guts to face down the debris that life can throw our way.  I love how Andy Chrisman’s voice brings home the beauty of being able to depend on Jesus to help us soar on wings like eagles.  Without a firm belief that He exists and is able to help us, nothing much else matters.

This song was 4HIM’s first #1 song, and rightfully so.  It places the focus of one’s spiritual life fully on Jesus and unwavering faith in Him.

Artist: The four-man vocal group 4HIM (Andy Chrisman, Marty Magehee, Mark Harris, and Kirk Sullivan) emerged in the late 1980s from TRUTH, the long-running Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) ensemble in which other CCM luminaries, such as Janna Potter-Long, Natalie Grant, Jody McBrayer, Anthony Evans, and Melissa Green, cut their teeth.

4HIM found success by melding strong harmonies with lyrics bearing the practical yet uncompromising message of the gospel.  The group disbanded about five years ago after a 15-year career whose highlights included 11 studio albums, eight Dove awards, and many other honors.  Southern born and bred, these gentlemen have moved on to individual careers that focus largely on worship leadership and music production.

Favorite lyrics:
Where there is faith
There is a peace like a child sleeping
Hope everlasting in He who is able to
Bear every burden to
Heal every hurt in my heart
It is a wonderful, powerful place
Where there is faith

Sweet spot: The slow buildup from 3:31 into the final round of the chorus.
