The smile of God

The late Indian poet Tagore once described flowers as ‘”the smile of God.”

I felt like I was basking in the glow of His smile this week as I photographed these gorgeous flowers at the Floral Library in Washington, D.C.

May we enjoy His beautiful smile today and every day. Happy Sunday!

You truly were tasting a morsel of heaven! Allison, I wish I could show you the Botanical Gardens in Cape Town. It is also breathtakingly beautiful and reminds me a lot of your Washington Museum.

    • I know the Botanical Gardens must be a delight, Mia. Cape Town has always been on my bucket list of places to visit, so this gives me more impetus to do so, and soon!

  6. Hi Allison! I guess I never heard of a “Floral Library” before. That’s a great concept. And I love the idea of the ‘smile of God’, because I just love flowers. So many, so different, so many colors…what an infinite variety. It’s easy to see the beauty that’s there.

Happy Sunday, and nice to meet you today!

    • Happy to meet you too, Ceil! i think I’ve seen you commenting on Dina’s blog, Causerie. The flowers at the Floral Library are such a wonder. In spring, there’s a tulip library that is breathtaking. Have a great week, Ceil!

  7. Did you see the upside down rainbow I photographed from last evening? That was a true smile from God! Love the pictures and thank you for sharing them.

  8. Just saw some hydrangeas while walking and want to go back and take some pictures of them. My mom passed away in January and flowers were definitely her language. Your words remind me of the little poem: A kiss of the sun for pardon. A song of the birds for mirth. We’re nearer God’s heart in a garden, than anywhere else on earth.”

    • Cheri, I love the poem! This is the first time that I’ve read it. And my sympathies re: your mom. My mom is very much a flower person too!

  9. Yes indeed! Whenever I see purple flowers, I’m always reminded of the line in the Color Purple: “I think it must piss God off to walk by a field of purple and not notice…” (something like that).

  10. They’re so beautiful! I’ve never been into photographing flowers very much, but I’d like to learn how to do it.
